11 July, 2003

Kota Kinabalu: The Kadazandusun Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has given the thumbs-up to the first 100 days of Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman’s tenure in office, particularly his seriousness in galvanising economic development programmes in the State.

Its President, Datuk Ajit Galun, said Musa had proven to be a visionary leader by unveiling the State’s new development master plan in a move to bring Sabah to greater heights.

“During the first 100 days, Chief Minister (Musa) has shown his commitment and zeal to bring about changes as far as development of the State is concerned.

“And we in KCCI will do whatever we can to help realise the State Government’s vision for the benefit of the people and the state,” he said here Thursday.

In unveiling the new development blueprint for the State recently, Musa prioritised three sectors - agriculture, tourism and manufacturing - a new strategy to spur economic development in the State.

Ajit said the KCCI would concentrate on producing more Kadazandusun Murut entrepreneurs in the manufacturing sector.

He said the potential in the manufacturing sector was bright, especially in the food-based industries.

“We have abundance in food supply and it is a matter of venturing into such business.

That’s why we urge our members to explore the opening in the manufacturing apart from the agricultural and tourism sectors.

“We will try to provide the members or the budding Kadazandusun businessmen with the necessary information on the available opportunities in manufacturing,” he said.

Ajit hoped more people, particularly the Kadazandusun Murut community, would venture into business to uplift the living standard of the community.- Bernama
